AIMS OF CURRICULUM:

BTEC Qualifications are widely respected and recognised. They will provide progression to the workplace either directly or via study of higher levels. YouGov research has shown that 62% of companies have recruited employees with BTEC qualifications. The curriculum is a flexible, unit based and its focus is on the development of skills that allow students to broaden their horizons with regards to further study or future interests.

PURPOSE OF STUDY:

This qualification is designed for learners who may be ready to progress quickly to further study. The certificate offers a basic introduction to Land Based studies. It gives learners the opportunity to develop a range of skills in the land Based studies sector and supporting progression onto further study.

CURRICULUM OUTLINE:

  • Being organised, working with others.
  • Research a topic.
  • Finding out about the Land Based sector.
  • Caring for and feeding animals.
  • Growing plants.
  • Caring for and keeping plants healthy.
  • Using tools.
  • Preparing soil for planting.

KS4 WHAT DO THEY STUDY?

Key Stage 3 students are involved in nurturing skills in horticulture and animal welfare in aspects of Science and Design Technology. These will be called upon in KS4 and developed.BTEC Level 1 Certificate Land Based Skills

QUALIFICATIONS OFFERED:

  • At present Land Based studies is on the curriculum for Key Stage 4.
