HOW SAFEGUARDING AND CHILD PROTECTION ISSUES ARE DEALT WITH IN SCHOOL

Finch Woods Academy primary responsibility is the safety and well being of its students and their families. The Child Protection Policy is reviewed annually by the Full Board of Governors. The school follows rigorously its has a statutory duty to share with KMBC CSC any concerns that we might have about a child that may indicate physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse or neglect.

A copy of the full Policy is available upon request.

The Adelaide Academy Trust (Finch Woods Academy sponsor) interview process includes a question relating to the promotion of the welfare and safeguarding of children and young people and application for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. All employees are checked on List 99 and are expected to complete an application for an enhanced DBS check.

If a child, a member of staff, an outside agency or a member of the public raise a concern there is a clear process for staff to follow.

STAFF TRAINING

Finch Woods Academy is constantly seeking to improve the wealth of knowledge and expertise that staff have to support students who may experience safeguarding concerns. All staff have had basic Child Protection Training and receive a 2 yearly refresher from KMBC. Staff also take part in Multi Academy Trust training which involves outside specialists coming in to talk to key staff on a range of issues.

This year this has included Attachment Disorder, Traumatised Children, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Brookes Traffic Light training

SAFER SCHOOLS POLICE OFFICER

The school has an embedded SSPO for 2.5 days a week. The officer is placed at Finch Woods Academy as the pupils represent the most vulnerable cohort within Knowsley. The SSPO has brought in outside speakers to talk  about crime prevention, staying safe online, knife crime and many more. The officer also works directly with students in lessons and liaises with families over community issues.
