We are sure you understand that parents have a legal obligation to ensure that their child attends school; student attendance is monitored closely on a daily basis.
To avoid legal action, please ensure your child attends school on a regular basis, no absences will be authorised unless medical evidence is provided.
‘Where a child, who is a registered pupil at a school fails to attend regularly at that school, the parent of the child is guilty of an offence.
School works closely with outside agencies and has a multi-agency approach to improve the attendance of our students.
Excellent attendance at Finch Woods Academy is an essential element in raising attainment, increasing the progress of our students and helping them to fulfil their ambitions and aspirations.
We aim to raise all of our student’s attendance to 100%, this will have a massive impact on student outcomes.
The majority of lessons missed will be national curriculum core subjects (Maths, English and Science). I am sure that you will appreciate that regular attendance is essential to your child’s education
What does 90% attendance mean?
* 90% attendance = ½ day missed each week
* Over one school year this is 4 weeks of learning lost
* Across 5 years at Finch Woods Academy your child would have missed half a year
Best results are always achieved when there is strong collaboration between students, staff and parents. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support in helping to ensure your child achieves well through consistent high levels of attendance.
If you have any questions on this issue or require any support then please don’t hesitate to contact Miss Sharon Hughes on 0151 288 8934.
